This is my hotel from last night in Ventosa. 

Set off at 8 after breakfast in the village bar. 

After a short day through prolific Rioja vine fields 

 

had a view of Nareja ahead.  

Had another breakfast in Nareja at 10.00 beside the bridge. 

Then uphill to what the the guide books call a prelude to the plains of the meseta which start officially after Burgos (5days walking ahead or 1 hour in car).

Staying in small 2 bar town but am surprised at lack of Internet access it had been excellent everywhere last year. I just walked through here last year. 

Tonight’s meal – vegetable stew, breaded veal stuffed with ham and cheese with fries, creme caramel and half bottle of chilled red Rioja – 10euro.
