Day 3 Zubiri to Pamplona 21km

Zubiri was important in the Middle Ages for supporting pilgrims on the Camino. There were, and still are, a lot of albergues in this small town.

There are claims that if you walked your donkey 3 times around the middle column of the bridge (see yesterday’s picture) it would be cured of rabies! Well I didn’t see any rabid donkeys in town- must be true.

The other industry in town besides tourism is the Magnasite factory.

A real blot on the otherwise beautiful valley.

The picture above and below are of hotel Akerreta which should be familiar to those who have seen “The Way”.

Most of the day walking down the valley through wooded areas with little climbing.

Had set of at 7.30 after breakfast today. Then stopped  for a snack at 10 in a small village called Zuriain. Unusual metal statue at the entrance.

More walking down the valley until the outskirts of Pamplona.

An hour and half to walk across Pamplona.

Picture below is from outside where I’m staying and shows the hills lined with windmills where I’ll be going tomorrow.

  1. Pamplona looked interesting but odd walking through a city I would imagine. Al has gone away on football tour with Matt and sent a text saying he’d had a hellish night in a chalet at pontins because of the snoring….so we sympathise with the sleep deprivation! I loved seeing the hostel from The Way – I imagined you dining alfresco en masse. Is the depiction on the film anywhere near the reality of the Camino? Glad to see the weather picking up and hope you are not feeling too exhausted…yet! x
